He compared it to my own world's "Church of Michael Archangel"*, a fundamentalist/dominionist Christian offshoot which regarded novas as literal demons from hell, even when most of baseline humanity was deeply enamored of us. Their reaction to novas commonly involved murder attempts, which succeeded more often than you'd expect or like.)
